I am sitting in my backyard (by that I mean our townhouses fenced in 18×18 deck area…) eating Organic Free Range hamburgers from Australia. Without criticizing my dear Mother’s cooking, nothing in that description was ever a part of my diet growing up, except for maybe hamburgers.
Words like organic, free range, 100% natural, and even the names of foreign countries never entered my kitchens lexicon until I moved to DC, and I really only by chance made their acquaintance. You see, I did not have a car for a good 20 months, and when I moved to my current location I had to walk everywhere! The only grocery store within a five minute walking distance was wonderful Trader Joe’s.
For those of you who know me, I have developed an obsession with TJ’s that must be listed in the DSM-IV Diagnostic and Statistical Manual for Mental Disorders. I cannot get enough of my organic hamburger buns, 100% hormone/antibody free Buffalo burgers, 100% natural raspberry preserves from Denmark, organic soy milk, organic whole wheat pasta, organic Honeybush tea from South Africa, cheap granola cereal, .$99 sparkling mineral water from Italy, all natural Tom’s of Maine toothpaste, and 100% recycled toothbrush made from yogurt cups! The list could go on for another 1000 words but blogger will cut off my post!
Anyway, for those of you who are still entranced in buying mass produced, fully processed goods from your big-box corporate “grocer”, bury the fear of being labeled a crunchy tree-huger and run to Trader Joe’s to soak in all the organic, natural goodness! If you do not have a local TJ’s, don the sackcloth, smother yourself in ashes, and pray, speak in tongues, or fling holy oil until the heavens give birth to one! Although, watch out for the 100% recycled toilet paper…one should spare NO expense, whether to the environment or pocketbook, when it comes to toilet paper…
be His,
