Well, I just turned in an eleven-page proposal to my organization entitled Emerging Evangelism: A Proposal for Training Congressional Staffers To Evangelize In The Emerging Postmodern Culture. Whew!!! It is almost as long as my senior thesis for my Political Science BA! It’s basically a proposal to scrap our old method using another evangelism training program.
All in all, I am pretty happy with how it turned out. I began by laying out the foundational philosophical ideas and conversation surrounding the emerging postmodern church, then explained why the current efforts using EE do not work in or connect with the emerging postmodern culture, and ended with my own alternative using a form of Rabbinic Evangelism and story-telling the Gospel Redemptive Narrative. It was interesting to expose myself in this way, by publicly expressing my changing views on evangelism, the gospel, salvation, etc…but rather fulfilling!
We’ll see if anything happens and if the proposal brings about some change in our current training efforts. I already told myself that even if nothing is adopted, it was still worth it because it gave me the opportunity to write where I think “evangelism” training should head in America. So when I pastor (yes, I said the “p” word, Rebecca!) a church someday, I’ll have my ideas already codified. Look for some of the content of the proposal to make its way to novus lumen.
be His,
