I just returned from a communion service I led for the small group I lead in the House of Representatives. Yes, that’s right, a group of staffers and I approached the Holy Supper for remembrance, reflection, and reorientation…right on Capitol Hill! Take that church separationists 🙂

See, this is EXACTLY what I am talking about when I speak of a Kingdom-vision for Capitol Hill. We didn’t do this to be cool, hip, or rebels in the face of all of the separation of church and state blather. No, we came together as a community of Resident Aliens, the Remnant, to return to the basics of our faith in Jesus and His mission on Capitol Hill. It is in the broken body and shed blood of Jesus we find our mission on Capitol Hill, not the Constitution or Declaration of Independence; being missional in the Hill community means a return to the Kingdom of God, not the Kingdom of our Founders.

At the end, one of the guys shared how doing this helps him keep Jesus the priority in his role on Capitol Hill in the face of the daily distraction. Another asked how we could complain about all the petty daily struggles and annoyances in the face the suffering of Jesus on the cross. Anyway, I thought I would share this little tidbit from the “field”.

be His,
