Yes, you read that correctly. Today I’m joining thousands of other crazy novel-writing peeps across the nation to try their hand at writing a 175 page novel in 30 days. That’s 50,000 words. In 30 days. Am I insane? Probably—but for different reasons.
And, why, you ask, am I writing a novel? Seems a bit outside my field to date. Why yes it is, which is all the more reason to do it! The premise of the novel is actually the premise of a non-fiction book I thought I would write. But after several rounds of consideration, I thought it would work best as a fictional tale. Hence, National Novel Writing Month, my first foray into noveling!
It’ll be sometime before I talk about it. Probably several months until I move through a few rounds of drafts and edits. But let’s just say this: it’s sort of a spiritual memoir set to fiction, one I hope will help other people on their journey into and through the Christian faith—a journey of rediscovery rather than reimagination.
King Solomon wrote, “Of making many books there is no end..” Well, I’m helping fulfill that truism this month, one day at a time 🙂 We’ll see what happens over the next few weeks, and I’ll be sure to update you along the way. As of this post I already have 1,800 words down! Only 29 days, 48,200 words to go.
