As I mentioned in my last post, it has been difficult for me to get back into the swing of things with blogging. To get the juices flowing I started reading a book on writing and actually doing the writing prompts that help spark ideas. So instead of keeping the writing sessions bottled up in a moleskine book I thought I would begin posting my prompts to begin sharing with the world my wonderful creations!
Yeah right!
The first prompt asked this: Acknowledge that writing is hard. Write it down. Then write about how you’re going to make writing happen. How will you find the balance in yourself to combine willpower with relaxation, stubbornness with joy? Write about how you’ve struck this balance in the past, with writing, sports, a musical instrument–anything you’ve done.

Writing is hard. Period!
Sometimes I feel that writing is a task anyone and everyone is capable of doing, like riding a bike or playing checkers. I forget, though, that, while everyone can conceivably write and put words together to form sentences and paragraphs for the sake of mere communication, it takes a writing to conjure up convincing, compelling prose to move hearts and minds.
And it appears God has gifted (called?) me as a communicator, which goes hand-in-hand with my spiritual gift of teaching.
It is who I am, this I can do it That also means I must cultivate and steward that calling/gift.
So while writing is hard, while turing words into ideas is hard, I will do what I can to make it happen.
I will begin by setting time everyday to write for at least 30 minutes. Whether in the am or pm, I will put pen to paper.
I will also commit to putting those word-smithed ideas into the larger community through my blog, novuslumen.net. That will be a good motivator and hopefully a good responder to my writings and ideas.
I will also make sure my discipline is balanced with flexibility and commitment with joy. I do not want this to become simply a check mark in the list of to do’s. Rather, I desire for my purposeful act of creation to be simple an extension of who I am.
Writing is hard.
There, I said it…
